Once She Embraced Her Budget, She Became Unstoppable

Tanya used to move like a Tosser.

If she saw something she wanted, she bought it. It didn't matter what her balances were showing or what her budget revealed. If the credit card still had room, she found a way to justify the purchase.

She told herself she would just work more, earn another credential, ask for a raise or apply for another credit card that offered a balance transfer. In her mind, there was always a future solution for her current spending.

Tanya had trained herself to believe she could outwork any financial mistake she made. And for a while, that belief made her feel in control, until reality let her see the other side.

The Weekend She Looked at the Numbers

One weekend, while organizing her desk, Tanya decided to open her statements. After really looking at the balances on a couple of her credit cards, she decided to take a harder look at her expenses. She logged into every account portal and printed every statement. Credit card balances, bank transactions and all monthly bills associated with her name.

What she saw was the realization she needed. Restaurants, clothing, weekend trips, donations and subscriptions. These were places and purchases she barely remembered visiting or spending on things she barely wore or used. As she calculated the totals of all that was spent over the last few years, she thought out loud "What have I been doing"? She could see the money she spent months ago on meals, short trips and clothes were things she was still paying on well after the excitement of those purchases had faded.

That's when Tanya remembered something she learned during a financial workshop. She remembered hearing about The Scale money personality. The Scale approaches money habits with balance. The Scale likes to enjoy life and the present without stealing from the future.

The idea of training herself to embody that personality left her with hope and possibility.

She decided to to give herself a 6-month challenge. The goal was simple: pay down debt, build up her savings and prove to herself she could make decisions differently.

She gave every dollar a job before she spent, she realized every desire didn't deserve an immediate yes and she made room for a life that limited the fun that would leave regret in its wake.

What changed most was her thinking.

What The Scale Understands About Money

Tanya  began pausing for questions and research before spending. She started to think about the future outcome of money decisions she made in the present.

In less than six-months, Tanya had paid down 75% of her debt and built a savings account she now looked at with pride. Those things now mattered to her. They were proof she was capable of more than reaction and impulse. She realized she could now plan, delay and choose - rightly.

By the end of a year her debt was cured and her savings account increased steadily. She now had money for future investing, vacations and real experiences she could enjoy without regret or putting her head in the sand.

Tanya didn't become a different person overnight. She became more honest about how she was showing up for herself, she stop letting emotions lead and left room for intention.

She learned when to enjoy, when to wait and when to protect her own goals. She became the balance she needed. She became The Scale.
